Doctoral Agreement

The specific academic objectives for the PhD students are outlined in the Doctoral Agreement DA, which is tailored to each GSPRE doctoral candidate’s research project. Doctoral candidates are matriculated at the University of Bern. They acquire further academic training in their research area by attending lectures and training courses, the scope and content of which are described in the Study Plan and individually defined in the DA.

Framework and Purpose

The DA defines the framework conditions and the academic accomplishments. It is created with a defined process to manage, review, revise, update, share, and communicate.

Major changes to the DA, including mandatory courses, must be agreed upon by the supervisor, co-advisor, and mentor. These changes must be recorded, signed with the revision date, and submitted to the GSPRE coordination office for final approval.

Educational Objectives

Formal educational objectives support professional competence, research, and publishing work.

Within the framework of the doctoral studies and GSPRE promotion regulations, the supervisor and mentor select courses appropriate for the candidate’s study program, with final approval given by the GSPRE coordinator.

The thesis committee may request additional mandatory ECTS based on the previous educational background.

Important

Any changes to the planned courses listed as Mandatory Requirements in the Doctoral Agreement require the consent of the supervisor and mentor and must be communicated to the GSPRE coordination office for final endorsement. The mentor's written approval must also be submitted to the GSPRE.

Major changes to the Doctoral Agreement must be documented in a revised, dated, and signed agreement and submitted to the GSPRE for agreement.
